Meet Carissa

Music has always been more than sound to me. It is a way we connect, communicate, celebrate, process, and understand ourselves and one another. Throughout my own journey, I have witnessed the incredible ways music can meet people exactly where they are—and that belief continues to shape the heart of my work.

I am a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and Registered Counselling Therapist (CT) with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals and families through the power of music. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with people across the lifespan, from young children and families to teens, adults, and older adults.

What continues to inspire me most is seeing people discover their own strengths, find their voice, and experience meaningful moments of connection. I believe therapy is not about changing who someone is, it is about creating a safe space where people can feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

Wood & Wire was created from a passion for bringing people together through music, creativity, and connection. I wanted to create a space that felt grounded, welcoming, and human. A place where individuals and families could come as they are and be supported through every season of life.

My approach blends evidence-based, trauma informed, and neuroaffirming music therapy and counselling practices with warmth, creativity, and compassion. Whether we are using music to support emotional expression, strengthen relationships, build confidence, or navigate life’s transitions, I am honoured to walk alongside each person’s unique journey.

My Approach

Healing begins with connection. Through evidence-based, trauma informed and neuroaffirming music therapy and counselling, I create a welcoming space where individuals and families feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

Together, we'll build on your strengths, nurture meaningful connections, and find your rhythm—one step at a time.

The Story Behind Wood & Wire

Every meaningful journey begins with a story.

From the very beginning, the name Wood & Wire felt like home. It carried the values, places, and beliefs that shaped the heart of this practice—a reminder that we are all rooted in a story, connected through relationships, and continually growing through each season of life.

Rooted in Alberta ranching traditions, the name reflects the beauty of where we come from. The strength of wooden fence posts standing steady across open fields, and the wire that connects them together. It represents being grounded, supported, and connected as we navigate our own unique journeys.

Wood & Wire also carries the image of a wooden acoustic guitar, with its warm body and resonating strings. Like music itself, it reminds us that healing happens through connection, expression, and the moments that bring us back to ourselves.

At the heart of Wood & Wire is a deeper meaning. The wood and wire also reflect the image of the cross. Wood representing the sacrifice of Jesus, and wire echoing the crown of thorns. For us, this is a reminder that true healing comes through love, grace, and the hope found in Christ, our ultimate healer.

These images come together to represent what Wood & Wire stands for: grounded roots, meaningful connection, and the healing power of music.

My hope is to create a space where you feel welcomed, supported, and reminded that your story matters. That you do not have to walk your journey alone.

Because every journey has its own rhythm.
