What is a Certified Music Therapist and Counselling Therapist?

As a Certified Music Therapist in Canada and Counselling Therapist in Alberta, we follow Standards of Practice and are bound by a Code of Ethics. We use music within a therapeutic relationship to help people change and grow. To be certified, we have completed a degree in Music Therapy, a 1000 - hr internship and a certifying exam. We also engage in continuing education and supervision to stay updated with current research and practices.

What can I expect in a music therapy session?

Our first 2-3 session will consist of an assessment to fine tune goals, interventions and session plans. You might talk, sing, create, write, play and listen to music. We will support you in order to make your experience a fulfilling one. No previous musical training or experience is necessary. Just come with an open and willing heart to try new things.

What can I expect in a free 15 minute consultation?

This will be a phone or video call with you and your therapist. It is a chance for your therapist to get to know your reasons for seeking therapy at this time. We might go over:

  • Your reasons for seeking therapy

  • Your music preferences

  • How music therapy can support your goals

  • Setting up our first session or a referral to another healthcare professional.
